Where Nature Nurtures Knowledge

Welcome to Nurture Nature Forest School CIC

Nurture Nature Forest School CIC aims to introduce your child to the natural world, allowing them to discover the wonders of nature through play, exploration and supported risk-taking.

We are based in North East Lincolnshire, but cover all of Greater Lincolnshire, offering a range of Forest School sessions for families, home-educating groups, nurseries, and schools.

What is Forest School?

According to the Forest School Association (FSA), Forest School is a child-centred inspirational process that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions, developing confidence and self-esteem through learner-inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting. The roots of Forest School can be found in Scandinavia, where their open-air culture is a way of life. The Forest School process helps and facilitates more than just knowledge gathering. By creating a safe, non-judgemental nurturing environment, learners are encouraged to do new things and take monitored risks.  This helps them develop socially, emotionally, spiritually, physically and intellectually, whilst constantly expanding their abilities by solving real-world issues, thus building self-belief and resilience.

What might Forest School look like for you?

We run a ‘mobile’ Forest School service, providing Forest School activities to suit your needs and location.

Worried that you don’t have the right kind of natural environment for the sessions?

Don’t be! We bring in plenty of natural materials that can be used in whatever outdoor space you have. If you want a truly natural woodland/forest experience, we also have access to a couple of venues that can be used for the sessions.

No such thing as 'bad' weather!

This is very much an overarching theme for Nurture Nature Forest School CIC and other Forest Schools. We go out in nearly all weather types! The only exceptions are high winds, very heavy rain or blizzards. One of the things we do is show children how to build shelters to keep us dry. In some cases, we have access to inside spaces, but it is important to come prepared for the outdoors.

  • If it is going to be cold, please wrap up warm. Wear lots of thin base layers as that makes it easier to cool down if you get too hot.
  • Long sleeves are essential at Forest School.
  • Wear waterproof boots or wellies.
  • Bring an extra pair of socks.
  • Bring a hat (woolly or sun).
  • If the forecast is due to be wet, bring waterproof trousers & coats if you have them.
